The UFO Continues to Grow! While no new UFO zines have appeared since our last NL was published (although a number of memberzines are in the works), there nonetheless has been a flurry of activity on our private UFOMembers Only Facebook group. We have voted in two new members (both by unanimous vote) ... AVery Big UFO Welcome to John Muller and (returning member) David Kling! Great to have you guys on board, and I will be reviewing your applicant zines in my “Reprise” column, elsewhere in this issue.
WEBCOMICS? There was also some controversy when Alan Barrett applied with a webcomic, and we had to come to terms with a very important question: should we allow webcomics that are strictly online with no hardcopy presence into the group? It was a tough vote, and a tough call for all of us -- as the previous Constitution did allow for webzines. But... there was an underlying understanding that hardcopies should be available as well, because many members prefer a physical copy over an internet only copy. In the end, the members voted NO for Al's admittance and we opted to clarify the wording in the Constitution by allowing only for print zines to become members. Unphased, Al is working on a print zine that he will be submitting soon. Which is great, because, as I said, this was a very tough call and a difficult line to walk in this particular instance. And it's good that Al understands and is working with us as we wrestle with a challenging issue. I think we should return to the question of allowing webzines, and see if a better resolution might be worked out for the future. Please check out Larry Johnson's column in this issue, he has some very important and wise things to say.
RE-RUNNING LAST ISSUE'S UFO CHECKLIST As mentioned, no new memberzines were received during the two months between TF 266 and TF 267... so I am re-running the previous list, using Larry Johnson's color version along with the “Still Available” listings from last time. Larry's checklist is in full color, but is shown herein in black and white. If you'd like to use the color version, there is a link to it in the UFO Members Only site... or send me an email and I'll zap it your way, no prob. There is no doubt next issue's Checklist will be bigger and better!-- I am already hearing from you guys that some exciting zines are on the way (including a new DITKOMANIA from Rob Imes!-- which I am particularly excited to see).
ABOUT THIS ISSUE Thanks to new member John Muller and our pal Rob Cooley for our full color covers! And also to Michael Waggoner for his excellent inside frontcover! And thanks to all of you who submitted some really great columns and comics... your enthusiasm is contagious and this is turning out to be a colossal issue! Great job, guys!
CHAIRMAN ELECTION IN NOVEMBER! I plan to run for Chairman for one more year, after which I'll take a break and give one of youse guys a chance in the Hot Seat. If anyone wants to run against me, and have a for real campaign, you will need to announce soon... because the Constitution says we have to have that vote by the end of November. My campaign begins with this pounding and powerful slogan: “Vote for me and I'll set you free!” Hey, I mean it! Lol
AND DON'T FORGET THAT DEADLINE The deadline for TF 268 is: Saturday, November 12th!! See you all then! All best wishes, Steve Keeter
